Keto lifestyle: 2 weeks in and down 10 pounds

Sharing is caring!

Here is a picture of me at my heaviest, before I started running or Keto. I can't believe I'm sharing this picture of myself. No one, before today, has seen this picture. I will share monthly updates along with pictures, here on the blog, documenting my journey. Yes, I'm scared. What if I can't stick with the plan? I don't want to let you all down...these are the thoughts that go through my head, but they are also the thoughts that are pushing me to keep going! I know I'm not the only one struggling with weight loss. If just one of you can benefit from this post, it's worth it to me to put it out there.

Before I talk about the Keto plan, I would like to give you a little background about myself. I have always been active and rarely sit still. I wouldn't consider myself a horrible eater, although sugar/sweets are my weakness. I have tried almost every diet out there and have either failed or felt as though I was depriving myself. There have been many times I have gone to bed hungry, and I thought that was normal because I needed to shrink my stomach. I finally got to the point I told myself I didn't care about losing weight as long as I didn't gain any more weight. Except, that wasn't true. Yes, I want to get healthy but mainly I want my confidence back.

About 7 weeks ago, Shalia convinced me to get back into running. I'm so glad she did. I started the Couch to 5K program (this is the program I did when I started running the first time) and it is the easiest way to get into running if you are interested in starting. I was noticing a slight difference in my body, but my weight was barely budging. The saying "you can't outwork a bad diet" is true. Again, I'm not an awful eater or I didn't think I was, but I didn't say no to dessert after dinner or watch how much I was snacking. I knew I was going to have to change my eating habits if running was going to benefit me with weight loss.

I found the book Simply Keto through another Instagram account (Living With Landyn) and I was hooked! Not only is Suzanne's story so inspiring, but the book is full of amazing recipes for every meal, including, desserts and appetizers. If you are a beginner like me and have no clue where to begin or what Keto even means, this book will explain it all to you. I know it can be overwhelming at first but take it one step at a time. You don't have to start day 1 tracking all your macros. I didn't and still don't completely and have lost 10 pounds! TEN pounds in 2 weeks without feeling hungry, deprived and like I'm going to snap on my family any minute! I still can't believe it. The first couple of days I just made sure I stayed within my carb allowance (I use the My fitness Pal app). I then started making sure I had enough fat grams. A couple of days after that, I started watching my calories, and lastly, I added in the protein grams. I don't track everything like I should, not perfectly, but I ALWAYS make sure I don't go over my carb or calorie allowance. I cook a lot of the recipes in the book as well as recipes on Pinterest.

I have tried so many diets and this one is by far the easiest one I have ever done. I'm not constantly thinking about my next meal or going to bed at 8:00 I won't eat something I shouldn't. This really is a lifestyle I could see myself doing from now on. Will I ever eat another piece of cake or have another roll? Yes, of course, but not right now, and honestly, I haven't even craved it yet and I don't know how that is possible but it's true. I promise, if I can do it, so can you!

I follow you two crazy entertaining girls on imstagram. I enjoy your stories, your style and zest for life through laughter and candid opinions. Thank you
I’m rooting for you Sandi. Keto eating is more than just a diet, it’s a lifestyle change. Once that metobalism starts burning, it’s amazing how fast the results present. When you feel better about yourself, what better motivation is there?

Today I have decided to start the Keto diet. I’ve been reading all day about it. I never had to watch my diet. I’m 5’6 and never weighed more then 119. Some would say I was underweight. Then, one day I noticed my stomach was getting big. I had a CT scan because I was worried. It came out fine. Long story short, I now weigh 146. I love cake. I’m so bad. So, I was wondering with the keto diet and excessive, do you think I will lose some weight around the middle? Thanks for sharing about this diet and good luck

Thank you! Yes, definitely I think you will lose weight in your mid section. That’s the first place I noticed a change in my body. I love cake also!

I wondered if you could share what your daily meals are are like? I am familiar with keto in general, but I wondered what kinds of things you do when you’re not cooking keto meals. Like, do you eat eggs every day for breakfast? Thanks so much, and great job. You are an inspiration!

After we return from our trip out of the country next week, I plan on joining you! I’m ordering ‘Simply Keto’ and I’m gonna look up what the ‘Couch to 5K is’. I’ve never had to watch what I eat. Then I turned 50 and started gaining. So I started power walking in our neighborhood — 3-4 miles, 4-5 days a week. Then I got severe plantar fasciitis. Talk about pain. It was in both feet. Took almost four years and many drs to help me. After a ton of different treatments of everything out there, it was my chiropractor that helped me get back on my feet, literally, using ultrasound and performing deep tissue massages, three days a week for 18 mths. Then he nicely suggested I lose some weight. I lost 30 lbs doing ‘Take Shape for Life’ which uses Medifast food and now Optavia food. Kept it off 2.5 yrs. Slowly started gaining again once I got tired of eating that food. So now I’m 57 and have gained 20 lbs. 😩 So ….. THANK YOU for telling your story and being transparent! I live to watch you and Shalia every morning! Love your stories. Keep ‘em coming! PS — you should really be proud of yourself!!! 10 lbs is a big deal. 😊

Thank you so much, Kim. I’m so glad you ordered the book. It has helped me understand Keto and is so inspiring. It is the easiest thing I have ever done. I’m so glad the chiropractor was able to get your plantar fasciaitis fixed.

Thank you and I’m so glad you are going to try it! I was the same way about it. I was intimidated when I first heard about it but it’s not hard at all. I wish I would have started it when I first found out about it but better late than never, right! You can do this!

Thank you! I’m so glad you got the book! It helps so much. You will also feel so much better and have so much more energy! The first few days are hard because you are adjusting but just think about what you can eat and not the things you can’t.

You were my inspiration to start Keto. Truly! I saw your instagram story about it, and how you were feeling and decided I should try it, too. I started on Monday, so it’s day three. I know, not very long, but this is the longest I’ve ever stuck to a diet with out a little cheat here or there. I know, that sounds CRAZY. But, I would convince myself a handful of Goldfish crackers wouldn’t hurt, or just one Hershey kiss. Now, that I’ve ordered Simply Keto, thanks to you, I understand that those little things can derail getting into ketosis.

I’ve lost 4.5 pounds in TWO days. I know it’s water weight, but it’s making me SO motivated.

Also, I ate chocolate mousse last night! It’s a keto recipe, and SOOOOO good. I can’t believe I’m losing weight, and eating foods I had convinced myself were bad. Cream cheese, Alfredo sauce, butter?!

I am trying so hard to stay motivated. And, right now, I’m feeling good. The headache I’ve had since Monday has finally gone away, and I am hoping that means I’m coming out the other end!

Anyways, I wanted to say thank you!

      March 22, 2018 / 2:49 am

I am so happy and excited for you! You sound just like me. I would always cheat also but like you said, with Keto, you can’t do that. The Chocolate mousse is so good and I’m still amazed by what I’m able to eat and still lose weight. Reading messages like this keeps me motivated. Just think where we will be on our weight lose journey this summer if we keep on! I can remember how I felt in my clothes last summer and I’m determined not to feel like that this summer. I’m going to post every month with a quick update, I hope you’ll comment with your update also.

I’ve been doing low carb for about 3 weeks and have lost 7 lbs. It does get a little challenging to find snack foods to satisfy my cravings. Maybe you already know about these but ‘Whisps” from Walmart are only 2 carbs for the entire bag. They’re crunchy and salty and a great substitute for chips or to put on a salad. I feel like I won the lottery when I tried these 🙂 Best of luck to you!

I started Keto 2/19/18, after seeing Landyn rave about “Sumply Keto”. Down 11.4lbs.
I agree it has been easy, really decreases your appetite.
I would love to see a typical day of eating for you.
I just ordered the electrolytes you use. I have been feeling a little weak and dizzy some afternoons, and hope that will make me feel better.
Keep the tips coming! You are so encouraging and you look absolutely radiant lately💕

That is awesome! The decreased appetite is amazing to me and makes it so much easier to stick to. The supplement should help with that. I will start trying to make a point to show what I eat in a day. Thank you so much for the kind words!

Ok. April 1. I begin my Keto diet tomorrow. Besides weight loss (I’d like to be down 30lbs)(thank you menopause) my therapist, who is also an MD said this is an incredible lifestyle for many reasons. She has been incredibly impressed with the results on lowering inflammation. Not just in the muscle tissue but the brain as well!

By reducing the inflammation in the brain you decrease anxiety and depression. (Although another tip for that is following you gals on Insta stories. You kill me!!

Reading Suzanne Ryan’s book now. A lot to take in but I’m all in. Thanks for sharing your journey!!!!

I’m so excited for you! I agree, I have never felt better. It is a lot to take in, but just take one thing at a time. I started out by watching my carbs first and then adding in the other things like calorie intake and then proteins and fats. You’re going to do great and feel great! The first couple of days is the hardest but it get easier from there.

    Thank you,

Hi Jessika! I use it from time to time when I feel like I may be going over my calories. Most of the meals have all the nutritional information already included in the recipes. I have the recipe pinned for the jalapeno popper chicken and at the bottom of the recipe is all the information needed, making it easy. Our Pinterest name is The Spoiled Home and we made a board called Keto and we have lots of good recipes on there!

Hi! Some weeks I feel like I do better than others but it’s going really well. I don’t feel like I do anything special at all. I Pinterest a lot of things and even watch a lot youtube videos when I feel like I’m going to cave or when I feel like I’m not losing weight as fast as I want. I have my favorite go to meals that I eat when I don’t want to feel like I’m dieting and that helps. Keto pizza is so good, Jalapeno popper chicken, Steak, lettuce wrapped bacon cheeseburgers are a few of my favorite things to eat. I don’t test my ketones. I have considered it but the most accurate is the blood test and I hate the finger pricking thing. I have considered the urine strips although they are not that accurate after time. Hope this helps some!

I truly enjoy following both you ladies! My husband I started Keto in July we follow dr eric Berg per our friends who lost lots of weight while changing their eating habits. For us we fasted a couple of times, eat healthy fats, veggies, salads & 3-6 oz of protein. cut out sugar & carbs, no more milk in our coffee, just half & half or ripple. Excersise 3-4 x a week (weights & power walking ) we tried many diets this Keto is the only thing that worked for us. We didn’t have a lot to lose but the weight was creeping up on us. Mid 50’s. Now we no longer fast, eat great, just stay away from the sugar & carbs. Bam it comes off. I recommend once you get to a weight your pleased with, have a trigger weight if you hit it go back to the basics of Keto. Ps I love all desserts & carbs too! I will indulge during the holidays then get back on the Keto train. You got this Sandi!!

That is so awesome that you and your husband found a plan that works. I think that exercising is crucial to any lifestyle plan. Thanks for the encouragement and for letting the information on Dr. Eric Berg. We will certainly check him out.

      Have a great holiday season!
