Here is a picture of me at my heaviest, before I started running or Keto. I can't believe I'm sharing this picture of myself. No one, before today, has seen this picture. I will share monthly updates along with pictures, here on the blog, documenting my journey. Yes, I'm scared. What if I can't stick with the plan? I don't want to let you all down...these are the thoughts that go through my head, but they are also the thoughts that are pushing me to keep going! I know I'm not the only one struggling with weight loss. If just one of you can benefit from this post, it's worth it to me to put it out there.
Before I talk about the Keto plan, I would like to give you a little background about myself. I have always been active and rarely sit still. I wouldn't consider myself a horrible eater, although sugar/sweets are my weakness. I have tried almost every diet out there and have either failed or felt as though I was depriving myself. There have been many times I have gone to bed hungry, and I thought that was normal because I needed to shrink my stomach. I finally got to the point I told myself I didn't care about losing weight as long as I didn't gain any more weight. Except, that wasn't true. Yes, I want to get healthy but mainly I want my confidence back.
About 7 weeks ago, Shalia convinced me to get back into running. I'm so glad she did. I started the Couch to 5K program (this is the program I did when I started running the first time) and it is the easiest way to get into running if you are interested in starting. I was noticing a slight difference in my body, but my weight was barely budging. The saying "you can't outwork a bad diet" is true. Again, I'm not an awful eater or I didn't think I was, but I didn't say no to dessert after dinner or watch how much I was snacking. I knew I was going to have to change my eating habits if running was going to benefit me with weight loss.
I found the book Simply Keto through another Instagram account (Living With Landyn) and I was hooked! Not only is Suzanne's story so inspiring, but the book is full of amazing recipes for every meal, including, desserts and appetizers. If you are a beginner like me and have no clue where to begin or what Keto even means, this book will explain it all to you. I know it can be overwhelming at first but take it one step at a time. You don't have to start day 1 tracking all your macros. I didn't and still don't completely and have lost 10 pounds! TEN pounds in 2 weeks without feeling hungry, deprived and like I'm going to snap on my family any minute! I still can't believe it. The first couple of days I just made sure I stayed within my carb allowance (I use the My fitness Pal app). I then started making sure I had enough fat grams. A couple of days after that, I started watching my calories, and lastly, I added in the protein grams. I don't track everything like I should, not perfectly, but I ALWAYS make sure I don't go over my carb or calorie allowance. I cook a lot of the recipes in the book as well as recipes on Pinterest.
I have tried so many diets and this one is by far the easiest one I have ever done. I'm not constantly thinking about my next meal or going to bed at 8:00 P.M.so I won't eat something I shouldn't. This really is a lifestyle I could see myself doing from now on. Will I ever eat another piece of cake or have another roll? Yes, of course, but not right now, and honestly, I haven't even craved it yet and I don't know how that is possible but it's true. I promise, if I can do it, so can you!
