Since we started The Spoiled Home, Shalia and I have tackled a ton of DIY projects between the two of us. Throughout the years we have shared our ever-evolving interiors with you, as you cheered us on. Whether its finding bargain decor, doing a room refresh and update, or full-on remodeling you know that we are always doing something.
Why do we love DIY so much? It is because we are just way too cheap to pay someone else to do something we can do ourselves;) We thought it would be fun to do a round-up today and share our most popular DIY projects with you! Spoiler alert: more are on the way!!!
Paint Colors
The easiest and quickest way to update your space is with paint! If you’ve followed us for long, you know two things. One, we aren’t big on color. You will never find neon in our home. Like, ever. We are the poster children for neutral color palettes. Two, we like to paint. Shalia has painted her entire house 11 times since she moved in. One of the biggest requests that we get is what paint colors we use in our home.
You can find all of the colors in my home in this post.
You can find Shalia’s colors here.
DIY Faux Shiplap Wall
I added a faux shiplap wall to my kitchen and recently painted it, Iron Ore, by Sherwin Williams. I love the texture and visual interest the wood-planked wall added to the space.
When Shalia decided to turn a guest bedroom into a nursery for her grandaughter, we teamed up to add a faux shiplap wall to her new room. We built it in a day! You can read our step-by-step tutorial on how to plank a wall here.

Laundry Room Makeover
Rob and I had not touched my laundry room since we moved in. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner. I could not be happier with the way it turned out. This space opens up into my kitchen, so it was important to have a cohesive look. Because the goal was to be able to leave the door open. I’ve been hiding this room for fear I’d be found out and labeled a sham. If there was ever a laundry room that made me actually want to do laundry, it’s this one.

Home Office Update
Shalia’s home office update using paint and World Market decor is a follower favorite. We are big fans of using dark, moody neutrals. Iron Ore, we can’t quit you. You can see the full reveal here and shop her latest office accents here.

DIY Firepit
Shalia and I both live in the country. So great outdoor spaces are a must for us! My back patio is one of my favorite places to hang out with my family during warm weather months. So we decided to add a firepit area to be able to gather outside year-round. Our DIY firepit area only took a weekend for us to do. It was hard work but the results were worth it!

How To Make Your Bed
Who knew that something as simple as making your bed would cause such a frenzy? Our followers wrote to us and said that even though they bought the same items we featured, they could not get their beds to look the same. So I wrote a step-by-step tutorial on how I made my bed. This story pin is going viral!

Where would I find the tutorial on the redoing of the buffet in Shalia’s dining room? Thanks!
Denise,
I painted the buffet years ago before we had a blog and don’t have a tutorial saved. On our highlights “DIY” I do share the colors I used to paint the buffet.
I cant seem to find the paint colors you used for the buffet, but maybe Im not very good at navigating your site and looking in the wrong places.
Thanks. Have a great day!
Denise
